Kogarah

A local plumber for Kogarah and the St George Hospital precinct

Kogarah sits on the Illawarra line between Rockdale and Carlton, with the Princes Highway running through it and St George Hospital at its centre. Around the hospital and station it is unit blocks and medical rooms; further out, older brick homes on quiet streets. From our Earlwood base it is an easy drive south. Part of our St George service area.

Call 1300 111 007. Open 7am to 6pm, seven days.

What It Is Built From

What Kogarah is built from, and where it fails

Kogarah has three kinds of property, each with its own plumbing habits.

The red brick walk-ups

Three-storey unit blocks from the 1960s and 70s fill the streets around the station and the hospital. Their shared sewer stacks block when wipes and fat go down them. Their hot water is usually an electric storage unit per flat, and a block's units tend to fail within a few years of each other. Their bathrooms and balconies leak into the flat below once the original waterproofing gives up. We clear and CCTV common drains, replace hot water units singly or as a planned rollout, and trace leaks between units so the strata knows who is paying. Strata plumbing →

The older brick homes

Federation and interwar houses on Kogarah's wider streets still sit on earthenware sewers with roots in the joints, and many carry water through galvanised steel that is quietly rusting shut. We clear roots with a high-pressure jet blaster, reline cracked sections without digging, and repipe galvanised in copper. Blocked drains →

The newer apartments

Recent buildings near the station bring different problems: burst flexi hoses, sticking tempering valves and pressure faults that show up as banging pipes or a hot tap running cold. We fix them and explain the cause. Burst and leaking pipes →

Cottages, Flats and Low Ground

Kogarah's railway cottages, its apartment blocks and the bay at the bottom of the hill

Mostly flats. At the 2021 Census, 71 per cent of Kogarah's homes were flats, 21 per cent were separate houses and 7 per cent were semi-detached houses and townhouses. In the older blocks near the station, stacks and drains are shared, so a blockage in one unit can show up in another.

Built in waves from the railway. The station opened in 1884, and the township, the Racecourse Estate (1889), the Seaview Estate (1912), the English Estate (1918) and Fitzgerald's Hill (1928) followed. The earliest homes were small detached cottages, timber first and brick later, and the streets around Bowns Road and Ocean Street are a heritage conservation area. Homes from those decades often still run earthenware or cast iron sewer lines, with galvanised water pipe in the oldest. We camera the line first and reline the failed length from inside wherever the footage allows.

Low ground near the bay. Georges River Council has published overland flow flood studies that cover Kogarah, and the land at the head of Kogarah Bay was only drained and subdivided after 1937. Ask your council whether your street is mapped. If water pools against the house in a storm, the cause is usually a choked pit or a cracked stormwater line, and we camera that too.

Two councils. Kogarah is split between Georges River and Bayside councils, and each has its own tree rules. Before a tree is blamed, we show you where roots are entering the pipe. Relining often lets the tree stay.

Emergencies

Emergency plumber Kogarah, after hours too

Burst pipe, sewer backing up into the shower, no hot water, a gas smell: ring 1300 111 007, after hours too. After-hours, weekend and emergency call-outs carry a call-out fee, always quoted upfront before we dispatch a plumber.

Straight Pricing

Upfront pricing in Kogarah

Upfront fixed price before any work starts. You only pay for the work we do, with no call-out fee in business hours and interest-free Payright options on larger jobs.

Property Managers

Kogarah renters and property managers

Kogarah has a large rental population, many of them hospital shift workers. We work with property managers on routine call-outs, urgent repairs and end-of-lease jobs, arrange access at hours that suit shift work, and send a photo report with the invoice.

Hospital Precinct

Medical rooms, clinics and shops around the hospital

The streets around St George Hospital are full of medical practices, dental surgeries, pharmacies, pathology rooms and cafes, and none of them can afford a blocked toilet or a hot water failure on a clinic day. We service these tenancies for blocked drains, hot water, leaking fixtures, gas fitting and compliance certificates, working early, late or on a Saturday so we are not in the waiting room with patients.

Questions

Kogarah plumber FAQs

Is there a fee just to get a plumber out here?

No call-out fee in business hours. After-hours, weekend and emergency call-outs carry a call-out fee, always quoted upfront before we dispatch a plumber. Nothing about that changes because you are in one of the unit blocks near the station: the figure is agreed on the phone, before a plumber is sent.

Who is turning up, and are they qualified?

A licensed plumber, or an apprentice working under one. We hold NSW plumbing licence 311287C and full insurance, and those details go on the paperwork. Whether it is a Sans Souci house near the Georges River or a Carlton semi behind the shops, the same licensing applies to every job we take on.

Are you local to Kogarah?

Our base is Earlwood, so Kogarah is a short drive for us, and we are in the St George area most days of the week. Tell us your street when you call and we give you the real travel time, not a guess.

Do you attend emergencies in Kogarah after hours?

Yes, every night from 6pm to 7am: the on-call plumber answers 1300 111 007, quotes the after-hours call-out fee before we dispatch, and we aim to be on site within 60 minutes for emergencies in the Inner West, St George and the Shire.

What does a plumber in Kogarah cost?

General plumbing from $242 inc GST, confirmed on site, with an upfront fixed price before any work starts. No call-out fee in business hours. The online quote tool gives you a guide price for the common jobs in about a minute.

Our Kogarah block of units has a blocked drain that affects more than one unit. Who do we call?

Start with your strata manager or agent, who can approve the work, and then call us. In an older block the stacks and drains are shared, so we camera the common line, find which length has failed and put the cause in writing. We isolate only what needs isolating, so neighbours keep their water where we can.

Can a sewer in an older Kogarah cottage be fixed without digging up the garden?

Often, yes. We camera the line to find cracked joints, roots or sags, then reline the failed length from inside the pipe through an inspection opening or a small access point. If a short section truly has to be dug, we tell you where and why before we start, with a fixed price first.

Which council do I ask about a tree that is damaging my Kogarah drain?

It depends on which side of the suburb your street is on, because Kogarah is split between Georges River and Bayside councils. Both usually require approval to remove or cut back anything but a small tree, and cutting roots can count, so check with the right council before any work. We camera the line first so you know whether the tree is really the cause, and in many cases relining that length stops the roots without removing the tree.
