Hurstville

A local plumber for Hurstville, the busy centre of St George

Hurstville is the commercial centre of St George, on the Illawarra line between Allawah and Penshurst. Forest Road, Westfield and the apartment towers around the station are as busy as anywhere in southern Sydney; the streets behind them are full of older brick homes. From our Earlwood base it is an easy drive south. Part of our St George service area.

Call 1300 111 007. Open 7am to 6pm, seven days.

Two Kinds

Two kinds of Hurstville plumbing

Around the station and Forest Road, Hurstville is high-rise apartments, mixed-use towers and older walk-up blocks. A few streets out it is federation, interwar and post-war brick houses. The problems in each half are nothing alike, and we work in both.

Apartment leaks that travel

In a tower, water rarely stays where it starts. A failed shower membrane, a split flexi hose or a leaking bath waste shows up as a stain on the ceiling below. We trace the leak to its source, isolate it, and put in writing whether it sits inside the lot or on common property, so the strata manager knows who is paying before the repair starts. Strata plumbing →

Blocked stacks and common drains

A ground-floor apartment that keeps backing up usually has a problem in the shared stack or the common sewer under the car park, not its own pipework. We CCTV the line, clear it with a high-pressure jet blaster and send the building manager the footage. Jet blasting →

Hot water in units and towers

Some blocks run a centralised hot water plant, others have a unit in every apartment. We repair and replace both, and we know how to fit a new unit into a cupboard built around the old one. Hot water systems →

The older streets

The brick homes behind the centre still run on clay sewers with tree roots in the joints, galvanised pipe rusting from the inside, and hot water systems past their design life. We clear and reline drains, repipe in copper, and replace tired hot water units. Blocked drains →

Interwar Streets and Flats

Hurstville's brick bungalows, its flats and the creek underneath

Two housing worlds. At the 2021 Census, 61 per cent of Hurstville's homes were flats, 30 per cent were separate houses and 8 per cent were semi-detached houses and townhouses. Around the station the older walk-up blocks share stacks, risers and drains, so one blockage can reach every flat on the line. On the higher slopes there are interwar bungalows, including the early 1920s estate on the hill above the centre.

An old railway suburb. The station opened in 1884, but the 1890s depression held building back, and most of Hurstville went up between the wars and after World War 2. Homes from those decades often still run earthenware or cast iron sewer lines, with galvanised water pipe in the older ones. We camera the line first and reline the failed length from inside wherever the footage allows.

Water under and around the suburb. Bardwell Creek rises near Hurstville and runs mostly piped in its upper reach, and Georges River Council has published overland flow flood studies for Hurstville. Ask the council whether your street is mapped. If water pools against the house in a storm, the cause is usually a choked pit or a cracked stormwater line, and we camera that too.

Trees and the council. Georges River Council needs approval to remove a tree 3 metres or taller, and that includes cutting its roots. Before a tree is blamed, we show you where roots are entering the pipe. Relining often lets the tree stay.

Emergencies

Emergency plumber Hurstville, after hours too

Burst pipe, sewer backing up into the shower, no hot water, a gas smell: ring 1300 111 007, after hours too. After-hours, weekend and emergency call-outs carry a call-out fee, always quoted upfront before we dispatch a plumber.

Straight Pricing

Upfront pricing in Hurstville

Upfront fixed price before any work starts. You only pay for the work we do, with no call-out fee in business hours and interest-free Payright options on larger jobs.

Property Managers

Strata and property managers in Hurstville

With so many apartments, much of our Hurstville work comes through strata and real estate agencies. We take common property call-outs, urgent leaks and tenant repairs, coordinate access with the building manager or tenant, and send a photo report with every invoice.

Forest Road

Shops and restaurants on Forest Road

The restaurants, food outlets and shopfronts along Forest Road run on grease traps, gas and hot water, and a blocked floor waste on a Saturday costs trade. We service them for blocked drains, gas fitting, compliance certificates and hot water, scheduling around trading hours where we can.

Questions

Hurstville plumber FAQs

Is there a fee just to get a plumber out here?

No call-out fee in business hours. After-hours, weekend and emergency call-outs carry a call-out fee, always quoted upfront before we dispatch a plumber. Nothing about that changes because you are in one of the unit blocks near the station: the figure is agreed on the phone, before a plumber is sent.

Who is turning up, and are they qualified?

A licensed plumber, or an apprentice working under one. We hold NSW plumbing licence 311287C and full insurance, and those details go on the paperwork. Whether it is a Sans Souci house near the Georges River or a Carlton semi behind the shops, the same licensing applies to every job we take on.

Are you local to Hurstville?

Our base is Earlwood, so Hurstville is a short drive for us, and we are there most days of the week. Tell us your street when you call and we give you the real travel time, not a guess.

Do you attend emergencies in Hurstville after hours?

Yes, every night from 6pm to 7am: the on-call plumber answers 1300 111 007, quotes the after-hours call-out fee before we dispatch, and we aim to be on site within 60 minutes for emergencies in the Inner West, St George and the Shire.

What does a plumber in Hurstville cost?

General plumbing from $242 inc GST, confirmed on site, with an upfront fixed price before any work starts. No call-out fee in business hours. The online quote tool gives you a guide price for the common jobs in about a minute.

Our Hurstville block of flats has a blocked drain that affects more than one unit. Who do we call?

Start with your strata manager or agent, who can approve the work, and then call us. In an older walk-up the stacks and drains are shared, so we camera the common line, find which length has failed and put the cause in writing. We isolate only what needs isolating, so neighbours keep their water where we can.

Can a sewer in an older Hurstville bungalow be fixed without digging up the garden?

Often, yes. We camera the line to find cracked joints, roots or sags, then reline the failed length from inside the pipe through an inspection opening or a small access point. If a short section truly has to be dug, we tell you where and why before we start, with a fixed price first.

Do I need Council's approval to remove a tree that is damaging my Hurstville drain?

Often, yes. Georges River Council needs approval for a tree 3 metres or taller, and cutting its roots counts. Check with the council before any work. We camera the line first so you know whether the tree is really the cause, and in many cases relining that length stops the roots without removing the tree.
