What "after hours" means at Pink Plumbing

Our office is open 7am to 6pm, seven days a week. That is when we take enquiries, quotes and bookings, and when a call back from Nick or Julie arrives within 30 minutes, which is our aim. From 6pm to 7am, every night of the week, 1300 111 007 becomes the emergency line. It does not go to a call centre. The on-call plumber answers, asks what is happening, and tells you honestly whether we can get to you tonight and what it will cost before anyone leaves the depot.

No call-out fee in business hours. After-hours, weekend and emergency call-outs carry a call-out fee, always quoted upfront before we dispatch a plumber.

What counts as an emergency

If you are not sure, call. Whatever you tell us is urgent, we treat as urgent. The jobs we attend after hours most often:

  • Water you cannot stop. A burst pipe, a split flexi hose under a sink, a hot water unit emptying itself across the laundry floor, a tap that will not turn off.
  • No water at all, or no water to the whole property after a pipe failure.
  • Sewage backing up. A blocked sewer with waste coming up through the shower, the gully outside or the toilet in a one-bathroom home.
  • A gas smell or a suspected gas leak. Leave the building first and call the gas network's emergency line (Jemena, 131 909, in most of Sydney), then call us. Our gas fitter makes the installation safe and repairs or isolates the fault, and gas stays off until it is safe.
  • No hot water when there is a baby, someone elderly or someone unwell in the home, or a leaking unit that has to be isolated tonight.
  • A blocked or overflowing toilet that is the only one in the home.
  • A hidden leak that is dripping through a ceiling or tripping the electrical safety switch.

Not an emergency tonight: a slow drain that still runs, a dripping tap, a running cistern, a quote for a renovation or a new hot water system. Book those online and we call you from 7am.

What to do while you wait

  1. Turn the water off at the meter. The main stopcock is usually at the front boundary near the footpath, under a small lid or beside the tap. Turn it clockwise until it stops. If only one fixture is leaking, the small isolation tap under the basin, behind the toilet or on the hot water unit may be enough.
  2. If a hot water unit is leaking, switch it off at the switchboard (electric) or turn the gas isolation tap on the unit to off (gas), then turn off the cold water tap feeding the unit.
  3. If you smell gas, do not flick switches, open doors and windows, leave the building, and call Jemena on 131 909 before you call us.
  4. Move what water can damage and put towels at doorways. A photo or two of the water and the fixture helps us and helps an insurance claim later.
  5. Do not pour drain chemicals into a blocked sewer. They do not clear a blockage caused by roots or a collapsed pipe, and they make the job more dangerous for the plumber who opens the line.

What happens when you call

The on-call plumber for that night answers. They ask where you are, what is happening and whether anyone is in danger. Then they tell you two things straight: whether we can get to you tonight, and the after-hours call-out fee for the visit. If you say yes, we dispatch. On site the plumber finds the fault, makes it safe and gives you a fixed price for the repair before any work starts. You only pay for the work we do. If the full repair should wait for daylight, parts or a camera inspection, we make the property safe tonight and book the rest for the morning, at the price we gave you.

We aim to be on site within 60 minutes for emergencies in the Inner West, St George and the Sutherland Shire, and we tell you the real time when you call. The Eastern Suburbs and the North Shore depend on where the on-call plumber is that night; we never promise a time we cannot keep.

Who turns up

Pink Plumbing was founded in 2017 by Nick, a Sydney plumber with nearly 20 years on the tools. Four plumbers, 40+ years of combined experience, and every job done or supervised by a licensed plumber. The on-call plumber comes in a marked van, with the parts to fix most burst pipes, flexi hoses, isolation taps, blocked sewers and leaking hot water connections on the spot. NSW Licence 311287C. Fully insured. Lifetime Labour Guarantee on every job, including the ones we do in the dark.

Where we go after hours

Earlwood is our base, so the Inner West and St George are closest: Marrickville, Dulwich Hill, Canterbury, Hurlstone Park, Newtown, Stanmore, Arncliffe, Bexley, Kogarah and Hurstville are all a short drive. We also attend the Sutherland Shire, the Eastern Suburbs and the North Shore. Say your suburb when you call and the on-call plumber tells you the real travel time.

In business hours it is a different call

Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm, there is no call-out fee and the office books you a time; on Saturdays and Sundays the office answers 7am to 6pm and books weekday times, and weekend attendance is for emergencies with the call-out fee quoted upfront. If your problem can wait until 7am, booking online tonight puts you first in the morning queue: Nick or Julie aim to call you back within 30 minutes of opening.

That's how confident we are that we'll do the job properly the first time. That's how seriously we take "pink equals trust."

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge more after hours?

No call-out fee in business hours. After-hours, weekend and emergency call-outs carry a call-out fee, always quoted upfront before we dispatch a plumber. The repair itself is a fixed price given on site before any work starts.

Who answers the phone at night?

The on-call plumber, from our own team. Not a call centre. If the line is busy for a moment, call again.

Do you come out every night of the week?

Yes. From 6pm to 7am, every night including weekends, the line is for emergencies and the on-call plumber answers.

Which suburbs do you cover after hours?

The Inner West, St George, the Sutherland Shire, the Eastern Suburbs and the North Shore, from our Earlwood base. The on-call plumber gives you the real travel time for your suburb when you call.

What is a plumbing emergency?

Water you cannot stop, no water, sewage backing up, a gas smell, a leaking hot water unit, the only toilet in the home out of action, or a leak coming through a ceiling. If you are not sure, call and ask; we will tell you honestly whether it can wait until 7am and save you the after-hours fee.

Can I book a non-urgent job after hours?

Yes, online. Use the booking form or the quote tool and Nick or Julie aim to call you back within 30 minutes of the office opening at 7am. A dripping tap or a slow drain is cheaper to fix in business hours, with no call-out fee.

Do you attend gas emergencies?

Yes. Leave the building and call Jemena on 131 909 first, then call us. Our gas fitter isolates the leak, makes the installation safe and repairs what can be repaired, and gas stays off until it is safe to turn back on.

Will I get a fixed price at night?

Yes. The after-hours call-out fee is quoted before we dispatch, and the repair is a fixed price given on site before any work starts. You only pay for the work we do, and the Lifetime Labour Guarantee applies.

Water Where It Shouldn't Be?

Don't wait for it to get worse. Call now and we talk you through the first five minutes and get a plumber moving.
